for my birthday, Red Vox decided to show up in Chicago for their first tour! with them being one of my favorite bands being founded by one of my favorite internet creatives, I instantly snagged a ticket and made my way to Tahlia Hall! First I will note, this is one of the best sounding venues I've been to. Probably because it's made the old fashioned way! Wish it wasn't in such a gentrified area though, but alas.

the opening act was the Super Guitar Bros! I enjoyed them so much I got myself one of their CDs! will definitely complete the collection eventually, but for now I got their arrangment of the Ocarana of Time soundtrack! one thing I was really happy to hear was how welcoming people were to them, since not every crowd is the most interested in the opening band. as a live artist on occasion myself, it was nice to hear that the crowd was very, very receptive to them, especailly duing all the iconic nintendo themes they played. the mario galaxy and gerudo valley themes were the major highlights, though I won't forget the original tracks they preformed either! just because an artist does lots of covers doesn't means they don't have good originals! :D

guys. we need to kill e.t.

red vox was actually genuinely amazing and I will not shy away from saying it was an amazing concert experience. I got myself a tour shirt and pin, sung until my throat started to politely (it was actually mean) ask me to stop, and jammed till my legs felt like jelly. when they began to play "return the call", one of my favorite tracks off of realign, I was HAPPY. they could use some tweaking on the live version in retrospect, but damn was it not really really nice to hear it in person. the new songs also sound amazing live, and hearing stranded was breath taking! I love how they went improv in the solo section, everyone grouping together and smoothly sliding to the end of the track, it was worth every penny I spent on that ticket. thanks for coming to chicago red vox, hope to see y'all again!
